Free to use. Not free to run.
Public money covers part of what this library costs. Neighbours cover the rest — the new books, the story time supplies, the printer, and the hours we can afford to stay open.
Every gift matters. Every gift counts.
A public library is the civic heart of every healthy community, and ours is a community centre in the fullest sense. Besides books, DVDs, magazines and newspapers, we offer digital resources available around the clock and WiFi in the parking lot you can use any hour of the day. We offer in-person, curbside and book-locker pickup, so your holds are available 24/7.
We welcome everyone regardless of age, race or gender. There is no judgment here — you can simply be you.
Public funding covers a part of what that costs. Local giving covers the rest: new books, program supplies, the printer, the heating bill, the staff hours that keep the doors open on a Tuesday evening. Every gift, no matter the size, helps us sustain library operations here in Spring City.

Concretely, here is what it buys
These are illustrations, not restricted funds — gifts go to general operations unless you tell us otherwise.
$25 — a new hardcover
One brand-new title on the new releases shelf, where it will circulate for years and be read by dozens of people.
$50 — a story time
Craft supplies, board books and snacks for a week of baby and children’s story times in the meeting room.
$100 — keeping the lights on
A share of the utilities, the internet line and the public computers that anyone can walk in and use without a card.
$250 — a teen program
A season of the bi-monthly D&D group and the monthly teen night: dice, books, snacks and a table that belongs to them.
$500 — museum passes
Family passes that let a household visit a regional museum for free on a Saturday they otherwise couldn’t afford.
Any amount — genuinely
Bertha Brower’s $500,000 built this building. Ten dollars a month keeps it running. Both are the same act.
Four ways to do this
1. Online
Give by credit card or PayPal balance through our donation page. One-off or recurring — a small monthly gift is the most useful kind we receive, because it lets us plan.
Donate with PayPal2. By post
Send a cheque made out to Spring City Public Library to:

Add a note if the gift is in memory or in honour of someone and we’ll acknowledge it.
3. In person
Come to the circulation desk during open hours and give by credit card, cheque or cash. We’ll give you a receipt on the spot and, if you like, show you exactly what it’s paying for.
See our hours4. Time and things
Volunteer shifts run throughout the week and on Saturdays. We also welcome gently used book donations for the collection and our sales, and gifts of stock, employer matching and bequests — call us and we’ll walk you through it.
Ask about volunteeringGive once. Or give a little, every month.
Recurring gifts are the quiet backbone of this library. They arrive whether or not there’s a fundraiser on, and they let the director plan a year in advance instead of a quarter.
If you’ve borrowed something from us this year, you already know what it’s worth.

Before you give
Where does my money actually go?
Unless you restrict it, into general operations: materials, programs, technology, utilities and staff hours. That is deliberately unglamorous and it is exactly what keeps the doors open.
Doesn’t the county already fund the library?
Partly. Public funding covers a portion of our budget. Local giving, fundraising and the Women’s Library Club cover the rest — and the gap is what determines how many evenings a week we can open.
Can I give in memory of someone?
Yes. Note the name with your gift and we’ll acknowledge it, and can put a bookplate in a title chosen in their memory. Call us and we’ll arrange it.
Can I donate books?
Gently used books in good condition, yes — please call ahead before bringing a large quantity so we can make space and tell you what we can take.
Can I leave the library something in my will?
Yes, and it changes everything when it happens. Bertha Brower’s 2001 bequest is the reason this building exists. Ask for the director and she’ll put you in touch with the right people.
