For most of its history the library lived in a 1,600-square-foot former one-room schoolhouse. Then Bertha Brower, a longtime resident who ran this library for years, left it $500,000 when she died in 2001 — on the condition it be used to build a library fit for the 21st century.
Her money, a State grant and an ongoing fundraising effort by neighbors built what stands at 245 Broad Street today: a genuine community center serving Spring City, East Vincent Township and, since June 2019, East Coventry Township.
Every dollar given here stays here — it buys new books, keeps the story times going, and keeps the doors open six days a week for 750-odd neighbors who walk through them.
Prefer to give time instead of money? We have volunteer roles and open board seats, and both make a real difference.
Gift amounts above are illustrative and should be confirmed with the library before publishing.
